Truckload carrier Cannon Express, Springdale, Ark., named Brian Abel as chief operating officer. Abel has 28 years of experience in the trucking industry, most recently at truckload carrier Arnold Transportation, Jacksonville, Fla.
"Brian has exactly the kind of operational grit we want to pave the way for our expansion plans," the company said in a statement.
Abel's nearly three decades of operational and sales experience in the trucking industry include senior positions as vice president of planning and customer service with Arnold Transportation and president of Houston-based Lane Freight. He also brings technological insights from Logistics.com, where he served as sales director for the company's suite of transportation optimization tools. Previous experience also includes positions with Direct Transit, North American Van Lines and Roadway Express.
"I know two things very well in the trucking industry -- I know sales and I know operations," Abel said. "Cannon Express provides the perfect opportunity for growth and improvements that will reset expectations about how a trucking company is run."
Cannon Express recently was acquired by Arizona Diversified Equity, LLC, a firm specializing in the acquisition of companies in strategic industries evidencing strategic growth opportunities. Cannon said Arizona Diversified Equity acquired approximately 60 percent of the outstanding stock of the company from the company founders Dean and Rose Marie Cannon. In connection with the stock purchase transaction, a new board of directors has been elected. Former outside directors Sam Fiser and Glenn Kelley resigned from the board but CFO Duane Wormington remains in that capacity.
