USF promoted Douglas R. Waggoner to president of its USF Bestway unit effective immediately. That post has been vacant since Gary Beggs' reassignment to "Team One," the USF initiative designed to drive "best practices" among its subsidiaries. Beggs becomes senior vice president of business processes reporting directly to USF Chairman, President and CEO Richard P. DiStasio.

Waggoner, a veteran trucking executive with Yellow Freight System and other companies, is being counted on to make an "immediate contribution" at USF Bestway, the Southwestern regional unit of $2.3 billion USF, the eighth largest trucking operation in the country.

"With both a strong marketing and operational background, Doug will be able to make an immediate contribution to USF Bestway," DiStasio said in a statement. "I am extremely pleased that he is taking over this important role. Gary Beggs' operational experience in LTL trucking as well as his leadership role with similar initiatives at past employers makes him the right individual to run the critical Team One program within USF."

Prior to joining USF as senior vice president of strategic marketing in 2002. Waggoner was president and COO of Daylight Transport, an expedited trucking carrier based in Southern California. Before Daylight, Waggoner was at Yellow Freight where he held numerous positions in all facets of the business.
