The Distribution & LTL Carriers Association will hold its Educational Management Seminar and Exhibit in Atlanta Sept. 22-24. This business seminar will highlight the latest products, services and technology to excel in today's competitive transportation market, with a special focus on effective marketing.

Highlights include:

  • A session on risk management and financing. Robert Bernatchez of National Interstate Companies will discuss how carriers should self-evaluate risks, manage those risks and pursue necessary insurance coverage in the tight insurance market.
  • A shippers' panel comprised of LTL freight managers with major companies will discuss their "Expectations of LTL Carriers," including service and freight volume requirements.
  • Advanced training and education programs will be discussed by Francis Gliderwell of G.I. Trucking.
  • James Flint, a transportation attorney in Washington, D.C., will discuss the basic process for negotiating and implementing transportation contracts that meet the needs of both carriers and their customers.
  • A carrier panel will be moderated by John Roswick of Midwest Motor Express. Panelists will include Jimmy Barkley, AAA Cooper Transportation; Robert J. Kortenhaus, Bilkays Express; and Regina DeBaker, Watkins Motor Lines.

Bill Fahrenwald, executive director of Lothair, will address the benefits of a consolidated and coordinated marketing plan.

Kevin Williams, CEO of the Distribution & LTL Carriers Association, will discuss the major regulatory and legislative initiatives, ranging from the 2002 and 2007 diesel engine concerns, OSHA's comprehensive ergonomics program, DOT's proceedings on hours-of-service rules, background checks for hazmat drivers and highway bill reauthorization.
