High tech and related industries will have a higher level of security in Europe. The Technology Asset Protection Association, an organization of manufacturers of theft-endangered goods, will certify 30 of Stinnes 3PL subsidiary Schenker's European terminals at the A level, TAPA's highest.
TAPA guidelines, called Freight Security Requirements, are comaparable with ISO 9001 for quality. The FSR implementation can be certified by independent auditors.
In European Land Operations, Schenker has now matched the TAPA requirements with its own security guidelines and combined them with operational quality management. Moreover, a dedicated network of special secured sites has been set-up. These sites will fulfill the demands of a full-scope TAPA certification at the highest level.
"We are proud that within a short time some 30 sites in all major European countries are certified according to the TAPA A level," says Hans-Jörg Hager, as a member of the Board of Management of Schenker AG in charge of Land Operations.
Following Ede in the Netherlands, which was already certified in 2002, the sites of Vilnius, Poznan, Warsaw, Milan, Bologna, Madrid, Nuneaton, Bordeaux, Lyon, Strasbourg and Hamburg were certified in recent weeks. Further sites in Germany, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe will follow later this year, said the company. In Asia, Schenker locations in Kuala Lumpur and Penang in Malaysia as well as Singapore were already certified according to TAPA FSR standards.
Schenker's Product Management Land Transport in Essen, coordinating this major project, is planning additional sites for certification next year. Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI) is conducting the certification. "We will also consider high-level security demands when building new logistics sites," said Hager.
