Brussels International Airport said freighter flights at the airport grew 7.2 percent in September even as as passenger flights declined slightly.

The report follows similar trends at airports such as Amsterdam and Frankfurt that suggest belly cargo business is losing ground to freight-focused businesses in Europe.

Brussels, which is locked in a struggle with DHL over night flights, says its overall cargo traffic was up 13.5 percent in September and was up 13.8 percent for the first nine months of 2004.

Overall aircraft movements, including passenger and cargo flights, slipped 0.6 percent in September.

Despite the cargo growth over 2003, freight traffic at Brussels is still 4.8 percent behind where it was in 2000.
